पूरी दुनिया के हर देश में महिलाओं को लेकर भारत (India) जैसे ही हालात हैं. हालांकि दुनिया में कई जगह ऐसी भी हैं, जहां आज भी महिलाओं का शासन चलता है. इसका एक जीता जागता उदाहरण अफ्रीकी देश केन्या में स्थित एक गांव में देखने को मिलता है.
हम बात कर रहे हैं केन्या (Kenya) की राजधानी नैरोबी (Nairobi) के पास स्थित उमोजा गांव (Umoja Village) की. इस गांव में पुरुषों पर प्रतिबंध लगा हुआ है. अगर कोई पुरुष इस गांव में प्रवेश करता है, तो उसकी जानकारी स्थानीय पुलिस को दे दी जाती है. उसके बाद उसे दोबारा गांव में न आने की चेतावनी देकर छोड़ दिया जाता है. बता दें कि इस गांव की शुरुआत साल 1990 में हुई थी. तब 15 महिलाओं के एक समूह ने इसकी शुरुआत की थी. अभी यहाँ 100 से जियादा महिला वो की संख्या हे ! बताया जाता है कि संबुरु और इसिओसो के पास स्थित ट्रेडिंग सीमा के आसपास के इलाकों में ब्रिटिश जवानों ने इन महिलाओं के साथ दुष्कर्म किया था. जिसके बाद इनके समुदाय में इन्हे घृणा की दृष्टि से देखा जाने लगा, जैसे इन्हीं की गलती हो.

कई दुष्कर्म पीड़िताएं तो ऐसी भी हैं जिनका कहना है कि उनके साथ हुए अपराध के बाद उनके पति ने उन्हें परिवार के लिए अपमानजनक माना और घर से निकाल दिया
इसके साथ ही अपनी शादीशुदा जिंदगी में परेशान, फीमेल म्यूटिलेशन से पीड़ित महिलाएं, दुष्कर्म और अन्य अपराधों से पीड़ित महिलाएं आती हैं. कई महिलाएं ऐसी भी हैं जो अपने पति की मौत के बाद यहां आती हैं. बता दें कि इस गांव में रहने वाली महिलाएं संबुरु संस्कृति की हैं. ये समाज पितृसत्तात्मक है और यहां बहु-विवाह की प्रथा प्रचलित है. उमोजा गांव में महिलाएं पूरी स्वतंत्रता के साथ खुशी से रहती हैं.कक
